SEOUL, KOREA – With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4, scheduled for April, 2012, Samsung Electronics has set a record-high sales goal: over 100 million units. The electronics titan seems determined to tip the balance of the high-end smartphone market, which has been largely carved up between Apple and Samsung, in its favor. Samsung’s aggressive moves to bolster its lineups, from low- and mid-priced to high-end smartphones, in succession merit attention.
Samsung Electronics plans to sell 40 million units of the Galaxy S4 reference model within this year and 60 million units of seven to eight follow-up models in order to attain its goal of selling 100 million units of the Galaxy S4 Series.
One of the Galaxy S4 follow-up models is the Galaxy Note 3, slated to be launched in October. The Galaxy Note 3 is expected to come out with a 6.2 inch large display.
Some estimated that the launch of the Galaxy Note Series will be suspended as the Galaxy S4 comes with an S-Pen stylus. Yet, Samsung will continue to release the Galaxy Note Series while focusing on the “Phablet (smartphone + smart pads)” market.
An industrial insider said, “In light of weaker-than-expected sales of the iPhone 5, Samsung has set an ambitious sales goal.”
