SEOUL, KOREA – KT’s focus on ICT-based smart energy projects is expected to ease power shortages through effective control over energy consumption.
On Wednesday, unveiling an IT-based solution aimed for the intelligent management of energy consumption at the TOC (Total Operation Center) in Seoul, KT said its solution proved to effectively control and lower energy consumption.
Last year, KT applied its IT solution to its office buildings and saw a 13.7% reduction in energy consumption. And backed by the implementation of DR (demand response) solutions at 110 E-mart stores nationwide, KT came out on top in the Korean intelligent DR market. On top of that, KT’s technological prowess has also been acknowledged abroad: KT remotely monitors the energy consumption of a national technology complex in Finland.
Such achievements can be attributed to KT’s pushes for the development of a next-generation intelligent smart grid that grafts IT onto existing power grids to maximize energy efficiency through the real-time, interactive exchanges of information between power suppliers and consumers.
By partaking in the Korea-Micro Energy Grid (K-MEG) project, initiated by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, KT also acquired technologies for integrated energy platforms and operational knowhow.
