SEOUL, KOREA - KT is planning to sell Smart Pad with Windows 8 embedded. They’ve decided to put in the market Windows 8 Smart Pad (Tablet PC) that is linked to LTE and/or 3G network.
The local telecommunications service provider and Microsoft Korea signed an agreement on the launch of the new pad with a built-in Windows 8 operating system in order to expand the relevant market. The telecommunications company is going to install HSPA+, a telecommunications service for LTE or 3G, to Windows-8-based Smart Pads manufactured by Samsung, HP and others and introduce them to the market in the middle of March. They also plan to carry out various marketing activities together with Microsoft Korea.
“The combination of KT network and MS Windows 8 will enable users to enjoy their work and contents in one smart device. We will continue to introduce to the market various Windows-based terminals for both high-speed Internet and mobile communications services,” says Gang Gook-hyun, the head of Device HQs of KT T&C Division.

KT가 윈도8 스마트패드 판매를 시작한다. 이달 롱텀에벌루션(LTE)·3세대(G) 통신망용 윈도8 스마트패드(태블릿 PC)를 내놓기로 했다.
KT와 한국MS는 윈도8 스마트패드 시장 확대를 위해 이 같은 내용의 협약을 체결했다고 6일 밝혔다.
KT는 삼성전자·HP 등 제조사가 만든 윈도8 스마트패드에 LTE나 3G 통신서비스인 HSPA+를 탑재, 3월 중순부터 출시한다. 한국MS와 함께 공동으로 다양한 마케팅도 진행할 계획이다.
강국현 KT T&C부문 디바이스본부장은 “KT 네트워크와 MS 윈도8이 만나 업무와 콘텐츠를 하나의 디바이스에서 즐길 수 있게 됐다”며 “향후 다양한 윈도 기반 올(all)IP 단말기를 지속적으로 선보일 것”이라고 말했다.
알바로 셀리스 MS 아시아태평양본부 사장은 “KT의 무선데이터 통신 기능을 탑재한 윈도8 스마트패드를 통해 한국 소비자들이 새로운 컴퓨팅의 세계를 경험하게 될 것”이라고 기대했다.
