SEOUL, KOREA - Renault Samsung announced on May 2 that it sold 10,871 cars in April 2013, including domestic sales of 4,535 and exports of 6,336. Domestic sales fell by 11.5 percent and exports by 27.1 percent, respectively, from the same month last year.
In terms of domestic sales, Renault Samsung lagged behind Ssangyong Motor (5,115 units), ranking the lowest among Korea's five major carmakers for four straight months.
Renault Samsung also suffered a sharp decline in exports. It blamed the decline in exports on a 57-percent decline in sales of its compact-sized sedan SM3.
When it comes to cumulative domestic sales, Renault Samsung narrowed the gap between this year's and last year's figures from 38 percent in January to 21.3 percent in March.
