SEOUL, KOREA – 3D animated film “The Nut Job” will be distributed worldwide by Hollywood-based Weinstein Company.
Korea-based 3D stereoscopic leader Redrover said Wednesday that the Nut Job will be distributed globally by Weinstein Company except for the US market. Under the contract with Weinstein Company, the Nut Job will hit the theaters first in Asia and then in South America, Europe and Africa.
Weinstein Company is a major film distributor that ranks fifth with a 10.2% share among Hollywood distributors as of May. Besides, Weinstein Company is the No.1 distributor in non-US markets. It has distributed The King's Speech, Scream, Academy award-winning Artist and Untouchable.
Redrover said, “Weinstein Company will make sure the Nut Job is globally distributed at better prices. PPL and merchandise licensing companies, as well as major Hollywood distributors, want to sign a contract with us.”
Open Road Films has acquired all US rights to the 3D animated comedy film The Nut Job and set January 2014 as its release date.

국산 3D 애니 '넛잡' 미국 메이저 배급사와 손잡아
국산 3D 애니메이션이 할리우드 유통체인 `와인스타인`을 통해 세계에 배급된다.
레드로버(대표 하회진)는 극장용 3D 애니메이션 `넛잡(The Nut Job)•사진`이 할리우드 메이저 배급사인 와인스타인컴퍼니(Weinstein Company)를 통해 북미를 제외한 세계시장에 배급된다고 15일 밝혔다. 이번 계약으로 넛잡은 애니메이션 콘텐츠 수요가 급속도로 증가한 아시아 지역을 시작으로 남미•유럽•아프리카 지역 등 스크린에 걸리게 된다. 글로벌 영화시장 규모는 지난해 347억달러로 북미시장(108억달러)의 2~3배를 차지했다.
와인스타인은 5월 현재 할리우드 배급사 순위(Market share)에서 5위(10.2%)를 차지할 정도로 손꼽히는 메이저 배급사다. 북미를 제외한 해외 배급에선 첫손가락에 꼽힌다. 2011년 아카데미 작품상을 수상한 영화 `킹스 스피치` `스크림`, 2012년 아카데미 5개 부문을 석권한 `아티스트`외 `언터처블 1%의 우정` 등을 배급했다.
레드로버 측은 “와인스타인컴퍼니는 할리우드 메이저 배급사로 더 좋은 금액으로 각국에 배급계약이 이루어질 것”이라고 말했다. 또 넛잡은 할리우드 메이저 배급사는 물론이고 세계적인 PPL 전문회사와 머천 라이선싱 회사들로부터 계약 제안을 받고 있다고 덧붙였다.
미국 지역은 할리우드 10대 메이저 배급사인 `오픈로드`를 통해 내년 1월 개봉된다.
