SEOUL, KOREA - "[The SM5 TCE is] really a dynamic powerful car. This is truly the crystallization of the technological alliance between Renault and Nissan."
Francois Provost, president of Renault Samsung Motors, said this in a new car presentation held at W Seoul Walkerhill on May 24, adding, "Based on the world's best engine downsizing technique, the SM5 TCE succeeded in killing two birds with one stone by improving both output and high fuel efficiency."
The SM5 TCE is the first mid-sized passenger car model in Korea mounted with a 1.6-liter engine. It combines Nissan's 1.6-liter direct injection gasoline turbo engine with a 6-speed dual clutch transmission developed by Germany's Getrag. The name TCE is an abbreviation of turbo charger efficiency.
The SM5 TCE will be available on June 3, at the suggested retail price of 27.1 million won. Koh Jae-yong, Renault Samsung senior manager responsible for public relations, said, "The new model is equipped with options almost equivalent to those for the SM5 Platinum LE, still the price is only 500,000 won more than the top-of-the-line model."
