SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Assan Otomotive Sanayi (HAOS), Hyundai Motor's automobile assembly plant in Turkey, has recently completed a construction project to expand its annual capacity to 200,000 units to current 100,000. HAOS said on May 27 it would soon begin commercial operations of the new facility in which it spent US$609 million over an 18-month period. HAOS president Chang Won-shin said, "2013 will be a monumental year for us where our production capacity doubles to 200,000 cars."
Beginning in September this year, the plant will produce the next generation i10 model, in addition to the bigger i20, which has been produced in Turkey since 2010, for sale in the European market.
The new investment from HAOS is expected to create around 775 new employment opportunities at the Turkey Plant alone and about 2,800 new jobs when including suppliers. The company hired 1,000 last year. By next year, it expects to increase its payroll to 6,300 including that for suppliers.
