SEOUL, KOREA – As South Korea telecom operator KT joins SK Telecom in launching intra-/inter-carrier free unlimited voice call plans for 3G subscribers, free unlimited voice call plans are expected to spread much faster.
KT said on Sunday that its intra-/inter-carrier free unlimited voice call plans become available starting on Monday.
Introducing free, unlimited voice call plans for LTE subscribers in April, KT said, “We will introduce free, unlimited voice call plans for 3G subscribers sometime in May.” A KT official mentioned, “Our launch of free, unlimited voice call plans for 3G subscribers was delayed somewhat due to numerous considerations.”
Though a majority of subscribers using free, unlimited voice call plans are 4G users, the number of 2G and 3G subscribers to free, unlimited voice call plans is not negligible. A SK telecom official said, “About 10% of its total subscribers using free, unlimited voice call plans are 2G and 3G users.”

KT가 3G 사용자도 가입할 수 있는 망내외•유무선 음성 무제한 요금제를 출시한다.
SK텔레콤에 이어 KT도 3G용 요금제를 선보이며 무제한 음성통화 확산이 더욱 가속화될 전망이다.
16일 KT에 따르면 KT는 17일부터 망내 무선 음성통화 무제한 △모두다올레35(망외 135분) △모두다올레45(망외 185분) △모두다올레55(망외 250분), 망내외•유무선 무제한 음성통화가 가능한 △완전무한67 △완전무한77 △완전무한97 △완전무한129를 출시한다.
KT는 지난 4월 롱텀에벌루션(LTE) 가입자만 이용할 수 있는 무제한 요금제(모두다올레, 완전무한) 출시 당시 “5월경 3G 가입자도 가입할 수 있는 무제한 요금제를 선보이겠다”고 밝힌 바 있다.
KT 관계자는 “3G는 가입자와 고려해야 할 상황이 많아 요금제 출시가 다소 연기됐다”고 설명했다.
KT가 3G 가입자용 망내외•유무선 음성 무제한 요금제를 출시한 배경은 경쟁사에 대응하는 차원이다.
KT에 앞서 SKT는 4월 말 2G와 3G와 4G 가입자 모두가 이용할 수 있는 망내외•유무선 무제한 요금제를 발표했다.
대부분 가입자가 4G에 몰려 있지만 2G와 3G의 무제한 요금제 가입자 비중도 상당하다. SKT 관계자는 “2G와 3G 가입자가 전체 무제한 요금제 이용자의 10% 정도”라고 설명했다.
KT의 3G 무제한 요금제는 67요금제부터 망내외 유무선 무제한 통화를 제공한다. SKT가 69요금제부터 망내 무제한을, 85요금제부터 유선 무제한을 제공하는 것에 비해 다소 장벽을 낮췄다.
통신업계 관계자는 “KT 3G 무제한 요금제 출시로 국내 거의 모든 이동통신가입자가 음성 무제한 요금제를 이용할 수 있는 시대가 열렸다”고 말했다.
