SEOUL, KOREA- The due date for the final bidder selection for Thailand's Chao Phraya River basin water management project will be postponed by about three months.According to the Ministry of  Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation and the Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) on September 15, Thailand's Water and Flood Management Committee had said that it would resume the bidding process after holding a public hearing on November 29 with the residents living along the basin.

Earlier in June, K-water had been selected by the Thai government as the preferred negotiating partner for a 6.2-trillion-won project to build drainage channels and cisterns. Afterward, however, the nation's central administrative court ordered that the government hold public hearings before to take into account environmental impact and other adverse consequences of the project.

It is expected that the final agreement will be signed by the end of December when the Thai government completes all the necessary procedures including the negotiations on the details of the contract and public hearing results. In addition, K-water will submit tenders for other water projects in Thailand, including water supply projects in nine provinces near the capital Bangkok such as Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Trat, Rayong, and Sa Kaeo.
