SEOUL,KOREA- The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said on September 24 that it decided against selecting Boeing's F-15 "Silent Eagle" as the nation's next fighter jet. The DAPA spokesperson Baik Yoon-hyung said, "Based on evaluation results on capacities and cost, we decided not to select the sole-remaining candidate. We will try to reopen the bidding as quickly as possible so that there would be no delay in complementing our military strength."

Kim Min-seok, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said, "The bulk of the 19 DAPA commission members said no to the F-15SE. The decision was based on the comprehensive evaluation, asymmetric military strength vis-a-vis North Korea, and latest security situation."

The 8.3-trillion-won next-generation fighter jet program will purchase a total of 60 jet aircraft for the Defense Ministry for the five years between 2017 and 2021. Three bidders, including EADS (Eurofighter Typhoon), Lockheed Martin (F-35 Stealth Jet), and Boeing (F-15 Silent Eagle), were on the race but the first two were eliminated for inconsistencies in the bidding documents and excessively high asking price, respectively, leaving Boeing the only bidder.
