In hall 7, stand 7B42, the Korea IT International Cooperation Agency (KIICA) showcased selected Korean IT companies at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. The governmental organization attracted talks with various industry partners to the companies involved and did its best to inform the public about potential business to business relationships in the Korean IT sector.

Kim Sun-bae, President of KIICA, was present at the KIICA booth on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. When asked to comment on the KIICA booth, he said: "Yesterday I visited here, and I got an introduction from each gentleman of each company. And I said that the future looks very wonderful." When asked if KIICA is planning to its involvement in 3GSM in the future, President Kim commented: "KIICA is doing many kinds of initiatives; this is just one of many initiatives. Exhibitions are a very important tool to introduce our companies overseas, and to introduce new technologies and new services into overseas markets. So we are going to expand it of course. But we are also doing other kinds of services. We are sending IT delegations overseas, and holding some business forums, business seminars."

There were eleven different companies involved in the KIICA booth this year.

The first company, Com2us, is a mobile game publisher. Their vision is to create the world's largest and most innovative mobile game community network. Currently, they are showing four titles at the KIICA 3GSM booth: Civilization III, 3D Homerun King, Super Action Hero, and Traffic. Notably, while the company purchased the rights to the award-winning PC title Civilization III, they were not given the source code by Firaxis. Instead, they reverse-engineered the game from scratch to play exactly like the original, but on a mobile platform. This is a remarkable achievement in so short a time.

The second company, Daulsoft, is involved in e-learning solutions and content authoring software. The company claims to be a first rank competitive power in the field of e-learning. The company's existing products include the TeachingMATE School System and TeachingMATE Authoring Tool, both of which work together in order to accurately and effectively communicate concepts from teacher to student and to manage teaching materials.

The next company, Disys, is a mobile TV broadcasting company. The company is focusing on the emerging trend of broadcasting and communication convergence. It supplies T-DMB modules and DVB-H modules in the European and Asian markets. DTV Interactive is in the business of Digital Media Broadcasting (DMB). Specifically, they develop and provide measuring and verifying hardware and software to test terrestrial, satellite and cable digital broadcasting.

Radiopulse implements the ZigBee standard in both hardware and software solutions. ZigBee is a standard related to, but distinct from, both WiFi and Bluetooth wireless communication protocols. It is a self-organizing ad-hoc digital ration network protocol that is useful in ways that WiFi and Bluetooth cannot be. The company is vertically integrated with chip, software, and application solutions. The company initiates low power wireless control networks that can be used in such wide-ranging ways as wireless home networks, PC peripherals, mobile applications, and health care and medical applications.

Infraware embeds browsers into mobile hardware. Its goal is to be the world's major embedded browser developer supporting all standards and capabilities for mobile phones. It is already a leader in embedded browser technology. The company works closely with Samsung and LG Electronics to supply terrestrial DMB BWS browsers.

Inka Entworks provides DRM interoperability to both businesses and customers. The company is best known for their EXIM business DRM solutions supplied to Samsung, LG Electronics, and over 60 content service providers in Korea and China.

Inticube provides wireless Internet and digital networking infrastructure. It is known as the company who was awarded a mobile technology grand prize, which established it as a leading wireless company. The company has worked with SK Telecom in developing and commercializing the world's first Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) and now seeks to provide the same service to other telecom providers throughout the world.

IntroMobile, a global company, provides software solutions to Network Operators and Manufacturers worldwide. It is known for its IntroPAD client/server solution that provides context-based Adware. It also developed the SmartPath client/server Solution, a component-based user created browser and global service gateway. It is also the master service provider for KT WiBro services.

Welgate Corporation is a mobile handset application developer. It is most famous for the development of the Missed Call Service (MCS), which is the single most used missed call notification program for mobile phones.

And finally, XCE, or eXtended Computing Environment, is an offshoot of SK Telecom which has developed a Java Virtual Machine for mobile devices.

KIICA is doing more than simply providing booth space for the companies. This afternoon of February 13, the organization has set up a meeting with approximately ten notable telecom companies in Spain in order to negotiate possible agreements. In addition, tomorrow representatives of these companies are flying to Rome in order to meet with a second delegation of Italian companies in order to once again speak about possible collaboration with the European and Korean businesses.
