Q: Would you tell me your ambition as a new chairman of the KIPS and plans for the future.

A: The KIPS has settled as a de facto leading academic society in the nation during a short period of 14 years. Such an accomplishment of the organization could be possible due to its members' positive interest and participation, as well as the efforts of former leaders and executives. However, it is time for the KIPS which has achieved the exterior growth to advance one stage further by making substantial development. For this end, the KIPS will push ahead the following academic projects this year.

First, I will make efforts to make the KIPS into an open society which people will want to join together. I will actively take part in the domestic and international academic events and will do my best to develop the KIPS to join the rank of internationally prominent societies.

Second, for this goal, I will try to register international conferences hosted by the KIPS including the APIS, ICUT and ALPIT to the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). I will also make utmost efforts to register the English paper being published by the KIPS to SCI as soon as possible.

A: The KIPS holds the IT 21 International Conference in June every year. The KIPS has held 10 conferences and in the process, the conferences have shed light on the Mega Trend of the 21st century IT technologies for the domestic companies and have made a significant contribution to the development of the domestic IT industry by gathering views of the industries, research world, academic world and political world to secure a competitive edge of IT technologies and industries for the nation in the ubiquitous age.

IT-related papers published on the society journals and announced through the three international conferences are about state-of-the-art technologies developed by universities and research institutes. The KIPS has imposed huge impact on the domestic IT development by establishing a system of joint researches between the industries and universities linking the technologies with the industries and owning many of the IT technologies jointly developed by the industries and universities.

The KIPS, apart from making efforts for the industrial and academic development, has had continuous interests in examining side-effects generated due to development of information and communication such as the Internet and in preparing solutions. The Internet Ethics Promotion Headquarters affiliated with the KIPS, in particular, has been hosting Internet Ethics Workshop twice every year, as well as opening 10 forums of related experts and publishing teaching materials used for the Internet ethics lectures in the universities.
