SEOUL, KOREA - Korea's major airports, including those in Gimpo, Jeju, Gimhae, and Cheongju, as well as Incheon International Airport, will undergo major renovation beginning this year.

According to Incheon International Airport Corp. and Korea Airport Corp. on January 13, Incheon International Airport will build a second passenger terminal as it reaches capacity. Other regional airports will also need additional spaces for terminal waiting rooms and arrival gates.

For the second passenger terminal, Incheon International Airport Corp. will invest a total of 4.9 trillion won and build the facility before the end of 2017 when the PyeongChang Winter Olympics are to be held.

Korea Airport Corp., meanwhile, will set out to renovate the five airports including Gimpo from this year. At the cost of 250 billion won, for example, the company will build boarding bridges, security check-up areas, and moving walks, which will shorten the time it takes to handle baggage to five minutes from 15 minutes. The airports in Gimhae and Jeju will also go through expansion projects at the cost of 133.4 billion won and 9.0 billion won, respectively.
