SEOUL, KOREA - The recharging of electric vehicles would be available at E-Mart sooner or later.Korea’s largest retail outlet operator announced on March 12 that it will launch the EV charging station service as part of an effort to facilitate the adoption of EVs in Korea.
To this end, E-Mart reached an agreement with BMW Group Korea and POSCO ICT to cooperate in establishing and expandingthe EV recharging infrastructure.
Under the terms of this partnership, E-Mart will provide a space for installation of EV charging stations, while POSCO ICT will be responsible for operating the stations. BMW Group Korea will release new electric vehicles to promote the formation of the EV market in Korea.
The first stage of the partnership among the three companies is to establish a total of 60 charging stations at E-Mart stores, centering on those located in Seoul, as well as other metropolitan areas and Jeju Island, within this year.
The first charging station will open in April, coinciding with BMW Korea’s releasing of its brand-new electric vehicle i3.
E-Mart said that the charging cable will be designed to accommodate all kinds of electric vehicles including that of BMW, once the users of the vehicles purchase the membership card.
