SEOUL, KOREA - LS Cable & System is accelerating its move into the markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. The company said on June 17 that it supplied high-capacity cables worth US$5 million to ZESCO Ltd. of Zambia. The cables will be used to replace obsolete power lines in the Zambian capital Lusaka and surrounding areas.

 

The Korean company expected it will be able to expand more toward the Sub-Saharan Africa region. Yoon Jae-in, vice president in charge of marketing for LS Cable & System, said, "As many other African countries are interested in our products, we believe there will be more orders coming in." With LS Cable's high-capacity cables, power companies can transmit twice more electricity than with existing lines. As this is considered a cost-effective solution to increase electric power transmission, cash-strapped African governments find it attractive to adopt.

 

Since establishing a sales office in South Africa in 2010, LS Cable & System has actively pursued business in the continent. Last year it delivered 330-kV ultra-high-voltage cables to ZESCO and held technical seminars in late May in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.
