SEOUL, KOREA - LG Electronics released a 55-inch curved OLED TV at 3 million won level. Considering that the company released the same-spec model at a price of about 15 million won early last year, it has cut the price of curved OLED TVs by more than three-fourths in just one year and nine months.
This is interpreted as a move that LG Electronics uses drastic price cut to dominate the OLED TV market where it enjoys unrivaled position.LG Electronics announced on September 28 that it would release a 55-inch full HD curved OLED TV at the price of 3.99 million won (including cashback benefits).
This price is lower than that of 55-inch UHD LCD TV which LG Electronics is now selling at 5 million won level.Compared to LCD, OLED has several strengths. Unlike LCD which has a backlight, OLED has no backlight, thereby making it possible to develop thinner TVs.
Since OLED has no process of installing backlights, OLED manufacturing is simpler than LCD manufacturing. OLED also delivers better image quality than LCD.
