SEOUL KOREA - Naver’s mobile messenger Line plans to expand the number of “Line Friends Stores” which sell its character products.Following the establishment of an official store in Taiwan last month, Line plans to open a pop-up store in New Yorkand an official store in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Line, a subsidiary of Naver, held the Line Developer Day 2014 at the Intercontinental Seoul Coex in Seoul’s Gangnam on November 26.
As of October 2014, Line’s global subscribers numbered 560 million. The number of Line users increased by 70,000 per hour, with its total subscriber number likely to reach 600 million by the end of this year.Backed by its global user base, the company is showing a rapid growth in the areas of games, contents, and character business.
Its game service Line Game passed the 470-million mark in cumulative downloads in just two years after launch. Line Rangers, a game developed by Line Game itself, created sales of more than 100 billion won last month.
