Seoul Korea - Samsung Electronics saw its global smartphone sales fall by more than 7 million units in the third quarter of this year, with its global market share estimated to have declined by about 8 percentage points.
According to market research firm Gartner on December 16, Samsung Electronics sold 73.21 million smartphones in the third quarter of this year, gaining a share of 24.4 percent.Samsung kept its No. 1 spot in the global smartphone market but its share and sales volume fell by 7.7 percentage points and more than 7 million units year on year.
In contrast, Apple saw its sales rise by about 8 million units in the third quarter. Apple sold 38.19 million units in the third quarter, with its market share estimated at 12.7 percent.
Following Apple were Huawei with 5.3 percent, Xiaomi 5.2 percent, and Lenovo with 5 percent. The combined market share of the three Chinese firms stood at 15.5 percent, up 4.1 percentage points from a year ago.
