The first winter festival will take place in Pyeongchang, Gangwondo, where the 2018 Winter Olympics will be held. The Pyeongchang Trout Festival Committee (www. festival700.or.kr, Chairperson Choi Gyo-Sun) stated that 'the 8th Pyeongchang Trout Festival' would be held in Pyeongchang, Gangwondo for 51days from December 20, 2014 to February 8, 2015. People can enjoy many different family experience programs and leisure sports including trout fishing in this festival.
Pyeongchang Trout Festival is one of the top three Korean winter festivals with Inje Icefish Festival and Hwacheon Mountain Trout Festival It had ever been selected as one of the top 20 enjoyable winter festivals by Korea Tourism Organization in 2013.
Pyeongchang, Gangwondo, is the town of snow as the site of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Many tourists visit here every year due to a variety of tour programs connected with nearby ski resorts and East Sea.
In particular, people can enjoy the exciting feeling of trout fishing, clearly seeing a school of trout, turning around Odaecheon from the above ice. Palate-pleasing pleasure is given to visitors because there are facilities where they can catch fresh trout raised in fresh water in Odaesan Mountain and make sashimi or roast it on the spot.
There are a variety of things to enjoy except foods in PyeongChnag Trout Festival. There are many different programs such as snowflake watching, ice fishing, trout-catching with bare hands, ice sleds, skating, ice-carts, ATV(four-wheel motorcycle), snow sleds and snow rafting, which all family members can enjoy together.
Choi Gyo-Sun Chairperson of the Pyeongchang Trout Festival Committee stated. "Pyeongchang is the place where trout farming was first started in Korea. Trout in Pyeongchang is very famous for its chewy and firm flesh and good taste. In particular, trout is the fish which children and adults of all ages enjoy eating due to its savory, clean and tasty flavor as a coldwater fish living in cleanly running water with the average water temperature between 7 and 13 degree."
