Samsung Electronics has developed a new DRAM which features fast processing speed and a 4-GB capacity. The company announced on December 23 that it will kick-start the production of 4-GB Mobile DRAM (LPDDR4 based) using 20-nanometer processing speed for the first time in the world.
The LPDDR4-based DRAM can process data up to 3,200 Mb per second, two times faster than the existing LPDDR3.
If this product is used for smartphones, users can take UHD quality videos and 20-mega pixel continuous photographing. Notwithstanding, the new product consumes 40 percent less electricity.
The product is set to receive the innovation award at the CES 2015, the world’s largest home electronics exhibition which is scheduled to be held on January 6 in Las Vegas.
In the meantime, SK Hynix is now engaged in the production of 25-nm LPDDR4-based mobile DRAMs. It is expected to be able to produce 20-nm products sometime during the second half of next year.
