Korean-made TVs are commanding more than 60 percent share in the European market where high-end models prevail.
According to market research firm DisplaySearch on February 24, Samsung Electronics gained a share of 39.7 percent in the European flat panel TV market last year, followed by LG Electronics with 22.7 percent.
Following them were Sony with 9.2 percent, AOC/TP Vision with 6.6 percent, and Panasonic with 4.9 percent. TCL was the only Chinese company which ranked within top ten in Europe’s TV market.
Sony boosted its share there by 3 percentage points from 6.2 percent in 2013 to near 10 percent last year.
The two Korean TV makers’ combined market share in Europe is 16.5 percentage points higher than their combined global TV market share of 45.9 percent.
An industry expert said, “They have enjoyed a dominant presence in the European TV market where high-end models are popular. In Western Europe, in particular, Chinese TV makers have a weak presence.”
