Asiana Airlines donated around 5,000 books in Korean to two middle schools in Bangkok, Thailand jointly with Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, marking the Korean Alphabet Day, known as Hangeul Day, on Oct.9.
The firm said on Tuesday it donated books and educational materials to Sarawittaya and Rayongwittayakom schools located in Bangkok.
The donations include a total of 4,600 books in Korean, two computers for the schools and 800 text books for Korean learning centers located in Thailand.
The schools, selected on the recommendation of the Seoul education office, teach Korean, Chinese, French and Japanese as second language learning. Designated as bases for Korean language learning, they show high interest in learning Korean and set up separate buildings for foreign languages. There are around 350 students learning Korean in the schools.
"We hope the donation would be useful for Thailand students to learn Korean language," Asiana Airlines' spokesperson said.
"We also believe this would contribute to spreading Korean culture and the language overseas," he added.
