LG’s latest premium smartphone, the G5, got off to a strong start, topping the weekly best-selling smartphone list in South Korea. Market research firm Atlas Research and Consulting said on April 2 that the LG G5, launched on March 31, came out on top in the first week of April.
However, when it comes to market share, the Galaxy S7 came in first with 59 percent. The G5 made up 30 percent of the market. Since its launch on March 31, the LG G5 has sold at two or three times the rate of its predecessor the LG G4. The G5 has sold, on average, 15,000 units a day.
Some say that the LG G5 TV commercial starring actor Jason Statham played a role in boosting sales of the LG’s innovative smartphone. The company said on April 7 that the LG G5 commercial had 15 million views.
On March 23, LG released the first teaser of its TV commercial. On April 1, LG posted the full-version of it on social media platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. The G5 commercial racked up 10 million views in just 6 days on Facebook alone.
LG said: “Famous actor Jason Statham plays every character in the TV ad, which successfully caught the eyes of social networking service users. The actor taking on multiple roles squares with the LG G5 modular smartphone’s great scalability.”
