LG Display achieved the world's No. 1 market share in the TV display market in the fourth quarter of last year with its OLED at the fore.
According to market research firm Omdia on March 21, LG Display's share of TV displays in the fourth quarter of last year (based on sales) was 23.8%, beating out Chinese display company BOE (20.6%) and taking the first place again in a year. .
LG Display ranked first in the fourth quarter of 2020, but remained in second place until the third quarter after giving up the top spot to the BOE in the first quarter of last year.
Achieving the top this time is thanks to an increase in sales due to a surge in sales of OLED products centered on high-end TVs.
In the fourth quarter of last year, LG Display's OLED TV panel sales reached 2.3 million units, the highest quarterly sales record.
During the same period, OLED TV panel sales also recorded $1.45 billion (about 1.8 trillion won), up 28% from the same period last year.
Annual sales of OLED TV panels last year were 7.4 million units, a 65% increase from the previous year.
Omdia predicted that this year too, LG Display will maintain the top spot with a 23.9% share of TV display sales.
Omdia predicted that LG Display's annual sales of OLED TVs will reach 10 million units.
Meanwhile, OLED TV has recently been growing rapidly, centering on premium TVs. According to Omdia analysis, the sales of OLED TVs in the premium TV market over $1,500 increased from 26% in 2019 to 41% in the fourth quarter of 2021, and is expected to increase to 42.1% this year.
