Korean makers of ultra high-definition (UHD) TVs this year will command the largest share of the item’s growing global market, a leading industry tracker said Friday in a report.
IHS Technology said Samsung Display and LG Display this year will combine to hold a 57-percent share of the global market for such TVs. This year’s market is expected to reach 40 million units, or 15 percent of the overall panel market, up 108 percent from last year.
The two Korean companies will have a huge lead over Taiwanese companies (27 percent of the market) and those in China (12 percent), the report added.
The volume of this year’s global TV panel market is an estimated 265 million units, or 5 percent higher than last year.
IHS report also said larger UHD panels will enjoy better growth due to higher demand than for smaller ones. UHD panels of 49-55 inches are predicted to control 27 percent of the market this year, followed by those of 58-65 inches with 26 percent. Those 40 inches or smaller will see minimal growth of 2 percent.
