Korea grabbed the largest global market share in eight product categories last year.
According to a survey on global market shares in major products and services conducted by the Nihon Keizai, the major business daily in Japan, Korea topped in eight out of 50 categories in 2014, an increase of two compared to six a year ago.
Samsung Electronics achieved the highest global market share in four areas, including smartphones, flat-panel TVs, NAND flash memory chips, and DRAMs. Samsung SDI topped in the category of lithium ion batteries, while Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering gained the No. 1 spot in the shipbuilding area.
LG Display ruled the roost not only in the large liquid panel area but in the mid- and small-sized liquid panel category.
By country, the United States topped in 16 categories, including server and search services, followed by Europe with ten (up from 8 in 2013) and Japan with nine (down from 11 in 2013).
