KT, Samsung SDS and Shinsung E&G signed an MOU on May 7 for cooperation in 5G Smart Factory business at the Shinseong Engine plant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province and agreed to push for commercialization of 5G smart factory and the Internet of Things for industrial use.
Under the MOU, the three companies will push for various projects such as the discovery of empirical cases for 5G-based projects, expanding the Industrial Internet of Things business, cooperation of infrastructure/platforms/services for demonstration projects, the development and supply of smart factory products for T ICT technology and joint exploration of business models and consulting support.
In order to succeed in commercialization, KT will provide its own network infrastructure such as IoT, LTE and 5G. KT's corporate-only 5G is essential to a smart factory environment where security of corporate information is important and provides a dedicated wireless network that strengthens security without going through general internet network.
"We will use KT's enhanced 5G network to expand our business into manufacturing, distribution, media and hospitals as well as the 5G smart factory," said Jeong Yoon-sik, executive director of KT's corporate customer division.
"We expect that control, management and data analysis of products will be possible in an integrated manner by linking Samsung SDS' Brightics IoT platform with KT's corporate-specific 5G network and Shinsung E&G's products for smart stores," said Lim Soo-hyun, executive director of Samsung SDS' solution business division.
