The numbers of mobile subscribers and internet users in Vietnam increased to 80 million and 20.7 million respectively in 2008. The 6.23% increase in GDP, the strong FDI of US$64 billion and the outstanding import / export growth also contributed to the fast growing economy and the urge for quicker adoption of more advanced communication technologies and electrical / electronics equipment in Vietnam. The last events, Vietnam Telecomp / Vietnam Electronics 2008, with an exhibition area of over 6,000 square meters, attracted 187 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions to showcase their top-notch technologies, products and services. The events received widespread support from leading international and local companies such as ABTel, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, EVN Telecom, GDS, Huawei, Hutchison Global Communications, MK Smart, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, NTT DOCOMO, Orange France Telecom, PCCW Global, Qualcomm, Sagem, Samsung, Siemens, SK Telecom, SunSea, Vinaphone, VMS Mobifone, VNPT Group & Manufacturing Subsidiaries, VTI, and ZTE. There were also country industry pavilions from China, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. The 4- day shows brought 18,359 trade visitors a rewarding experience too. The events were highly recognized by the industry, in which over 90% of exhibitors were satisfied with the promotion coverage, visitor flow and quality of the expos, and 92% of exhibitors said that they would participate or consider their participation again in the 2009 events.
Concurrent symposia and conferences were held alongside the expos for even more in-depth technology exchange among 30 star speakers from over 20 industry giants and government ministries of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. The over 400 audience members heard lectures on the topics of 3G, WiMax, Broadband, E-Entertainment, Multimedia, Next Generation Networks, Wireless & Satellite Communications, Managed Services, TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE.
