. INTEL's 64-BIT, MULTI-CORE ENTERPRISE PLATFORMS RUNNING MICROSOFT WINDOWS |
Intel Corporation estimates that 2005 will be the first year that the majority of its new server, workstation and desktop platforms will ship with 64-bit technology. In addition, Intel has more than 15 multi-core projects underway across its desktop, mobile and server platforms.
A key factor enabling the adoption of 64-bit computing is announcement of the Microsoft* Windows Server* 2003 x64 Editions and Windows XP Professional* x64 Edition. This launch will continue to help drive the momentum of Intel 64-bit platforms, which are being rapidly adopted today. In fact, the 64-bit Intel Xeonprocessor launched last year was the most successful enterprise processor launch for Intel to date. Intel reached sales of over one million units of the 64-bit Intel Xeon processor within the first six months of its introduction, which is three times the volume, in a third of the time, compared to another processor company 64-bit server offering. This fast pace of market acceptance continues in 2005.
