In 2010 the government will launch a project to build an intelligent infrastructure in which 18 major social overhead capital resources, such as transportation, logistics, electric power, and energy, will be combined with information technology.
This is an attempt to use IT as a way to transform the backbone network of an entire society. Ripple effects of this convergence project, as well as IT itself, are expected to create new demand worth tens of trillions of won, or billions of dollars.
This project will be implemented by several government agencies under the initiative of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy until 2020. The Intelligent SOC Project, alongside the Five Future Strategies for IT Korea, which has recently been formulated by Cheong Wa Dae and the Commission for Future and Vision, will likely emerge as a huge project that can create new demand for IT-related sectors.
The government expects this new project to create new trillion won worth demand for various kinds of IT-related software, network equipment, and systems, as well as for the IT-convergence industry.
