Volvo Truck Korea has launched a mid-sized truck model. The company is aiming for annual sales of 4,000 vehicles by 2020 across the medium and heavy-duty truck market in Korea. Also, Volvo truck sales have grown substantially over the years. Its accumulated truck sales are expected to hit 15,000 by the end of the year and 32,000 in 2020.
Volve Truck held a new model launch ceremony of its Volvo FL series truck on July 7 at the Pukak Skyway Octagonal Pavilion. Kim Young-jae, president of Volvo Truck Korea, said, "Volvo Truck will market its trucks aggressively beginning this year.
Based on the FL series model launched today, we will double the number of trucks sold in Korea and sell more than 4,000 trucks a year by 2020 to become No. 1 in the nation's commercial vehicle market."
"Even though we won't be able to catch up with Hyundai Motor in terms of number of cars sold, we will take the No. 1 position in quality, safety, and service. Ultimately we will seek to be the brand that makes Hyundai nervous," he added.
The newly launched FL trucks are mounted with a 280-horsepower Euro 6 engine with a I-Sync transmission. Its electronic stability program (ESP), which was mounted on luxury cars only, can reduce the risk of skidding and rollovers. The average retail price of the FL trucks is 88 million won. It is unusual for a foreign commercial vehicle brand to market a mid-sized truck model as the market is dominated by Hyundai Motor and Tata Daewoo.
