Ahn Sang-soo, the Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City said:
"I can see how fast New Songdo City is changing. On Oct. 16th, the Incheon Bridge, the world's 5th longest bridge, will be opened, and the 151-story Incheon Tower is in process to become a new landmark. At New Songdo City with a 21st century paradigm, RFID/USN Korea 2009 will offer visitors a chance to experience new technology in a ubiquitous environment. Global companies like IBM and Cisco are participating in the event and it will help RFID and USN businesses to grow in the future.
"Since 2006, the u-IT Cluster Support Center was established in Songdo City to support RFID/USN development and strengthen cluster network. RFID/USN Korea 2009 will show a vision for future Songdo City."
Oh Hae-seok, Presidential Advisor for Information Technology, followed the mayor and noted:
"Songdo City is becoming a world renowned city as Incheon Economic Free Zone. IT industry needs new ideas for innovation and RFID technology has a great future. It is used in various fields. The common example is T-money used as a transportation card. The medical industry uses the technology to keep the record for medicine and patients. It is even used in the Blue House. There are invisible network set up like a web, and IT industry is built on cellular and RFID network. Korean products such as displays, semiconductors, and cellphones are currently leading products in a global market. But RFID technology can be developed with wireless internet and GPS to be better technology and products, and it could be the next leading Korean export."
The highlight of Chae Jong-seok, Head of ETRI Research Center and Chairman of Test Authentication Subcommittee, was:
"170 companies from 10 countries are attending the RFID/USN Korea 2009 while 30,000 foreigners are expected to participate. The exhibition halls are divided into 7 categories - u-IT convergence services and solutions, government-related public RFID/USN services, RFID/USN products, future RFID/USN technologies, overseas business pavilion, patent pavilion, and RFID/USN based event zone. Every year, new RFID technologies are introduced with a lot of attention globally. It is a good chance for Korean companies to show and export their new technologies and products worldwide."
