Hyundai Mobis has been selected as ‘Supplier of the Year’ by GM, the largest automaker in North America, on May 29th. This is the first time that Hyundai Mobis has been honored with the award.
The company has been recognized for its product competitiveness based on years of trust with GM in the conservative auto parts market. In particular, the company said that it is meaningful because it bore fruit in the automotive application components, which play a key role in the future car sector.
GM selects the ‘Supplier of the Year’ based on comprehensive assessment of quality, development capability, and innovation based on 3,000 primary suppliers in 10 different sectors including chassis, powertrains, interior design, and electronic devices. A total of 16 companies including Hyundai Mobis in the automotive application components were selected for the first time.
The Integrated Center Stack (ICS), supplied by Hyundai Mobis to GM, is a major component that controls multimedia and air conditioners.
Hyundai Mobis has received orders totaling 1.1 billion dollars since landing GM’s first ICS order in 2010, and has been supplying GM’s major automobiles, ranging from small passenger cars to large SUVs.
In addition to ICS, Hyundai Mobis is supplying GM with Automatic Occupant Sensor (AOS) and Drum in Hat (DIH).
The company plans to diversify its efforts to expand orders by inviting high-ranking officials from North America and Mexico to local workplaces with the appointment of a partner company this year.
