Commercialization of 5G has entered final stage.
SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics announced on October 15 that they succeeded in 'first call' with 5G equipment at SK Telecom's Bundang office building.
First call is the final procedure for verifying that data is normally sent and received in the same environment as commercial services. The first communication record is left only when the entire process necessary for data communication passes without any problems.
Until now, various telecommunication businesses including SK Telecom have succeeded in making 5G first call through standards and testing equipment. This time, it is special that all processes are carried out with commercial 5G equipment that can be installed on-site.
Frequency band also used 100MHz width for 3.5GHz band that will be used for actual commercial services.
All technologies and equipment conform to the 3GPP international standards.
Now SK Telecom and Samsung are going to establish 5G equipment at actual sites to verify last-minute technologies. It is optimized to provide the best quality at various sites such as indoor, outdoor, and mobile environments. It is also going to carry out final tests on 5G equipment and technologies that take into account bad weather, natural disasters, and sudden situations.
"We are months ahead of global telecommunication businesses in preparing for commercialization of 5G network. Based on its best technical skills, it will increase quality to maximum before commercialization," said Park Jin-hyo, head of ICT Technology Institute.
Samsung Electronics Vice President Jeon Kyung-hoon said, "With commercial equipment, the company`s first call success based on international standards is an example of samsung and SK's high technological prowess. We will thoroughly prepare to start commercial services for flawless 5G"
