It has been revealed that an employee at a Nike Korea store illegally photographed customers. The company allegedly attempted to appease a victim by giving the customer gift certificates.
According to industry sources on Nov. 20, an employee who works at a Nike store in a premium outlet in Yeoju was arrested on Nov. 3 on charges of illegally filming part of a customer's body.
The employee is known to have photographed some of the female customer with a device that the company paid for inventory. In addition, it is known that about 100 photos of other female bodies were found on the device.
The staff has worked as a Nike Korea regular official for two months since last August. After the incident, Nike Korea terminated the contract with him.
However, there has been controversy over the company’s improper treatment of victims in the process. According to some media sources, claims have been raised that when the victim demanded an apology and a prevention of a recurrence to the company, it attempted to conciliate the victim with a gift certificate.
Related to this, Nike said, "We offered gift certificates, but it was not an attempt to cover up the case, but a consolation to the customer's emotional distress."
