The lift stopped at Deogyusan Ski Resort in Muju County, North Jeolla Province, causing dozens of passengers to shiver with cold and fear below zero temperature for about an hour.
At 6:57 a.m. on Jan. 5, 34 passengers were isolated in the air when the first-grade course lift stopped at the Deogyusan Ski Resort.
For this reason, passengers were hanging in the air in the cold for an hour from a height of about 10 meters.
The fire department, which had been called in, manually operated the lift and rescued all the passengers. Some passengers complained of hypothermia, but fortunately, their lives were safe.
Deogyusan Resort Co. believes that the lift stopped due to a problem in the operating system, and is currently suspending the operation of the slope lift and identifying the exact cause of the accident.
