KT said on Aug. 5 that it has joined hands with Scholastic, the largest U.S. publisher for infants and children, in order to cooperate in English education contents business using IT technology.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to jointly develop future English education contents and services based on ICT technologies owned by KT such as 5G, AI and AR and take the initiative in next-generation media education platforms.
Details of the bilateral cooperation between KT and Scholastic include the production of digital content using `Scholastic English Education Contents`, joint development and marketing of the latest English education solutions that incorporate ICT technology from KT, and joint development of the Olleh TV English Curriculum, which can be used easily and cheaply.
Scholastic is a large publisher that circulates books in 165 countries around the world, and it uses Scholastic's textbooks and programs at 96,000 schools, or 83 percent of 115,000 national schools in the United States. Some of the most popular books are Harry Potter, Magic School Bus and Dog Man.
"KT, which has South Korea's best ICT technology, has been leading changes in the kids education market by applying technologies such as AI and AR and introducing AI TV GiGa Genie," said Koo Hyun-mo, head of KT's Customer & Media Division.
