LG Electronics and Siemens of Germany have agreed to accelerate their digital transition in the manufacturing field.
LG Electronics said on Aug. 28 that the two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop "manufacturing intelligent solutions" at LG Digital Park in Pyeongtaek.
Siemens Digital Industries is a global leader in providing integrated solutions ranging from design to service in order to implement a smart manufacturing environment. LG Electronics and Siemens are planning to quickly lead the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector by creating a collaborative model based on intelligent manufacturing.
Under the agreement, the two companies will push for digitalization of production element technologies such as joint R&D of digital twin technologies, equipment, molds, and 3D printing. They will also operate regular meetings for joint solution research and development and close cooperation.
"We are happy to work with LG, which has been leading the global consumer electronics industry," said Dieter Schletterer, head of Siemens Digital Industries. "We will be able to provide our customers with more advanced products and solutions."
"Based on the accumulated know-how in the manufacturing sector, we will strengthen our strategic cooperation so that we can accelerate the manufacturing intelligence of LG Group," said Hong Soon-kook, president of LG Electronics' Material/Production Technology Institute.
